Key holders made with nunchuks
Right now I am working in decorating an old pair of nunchuks that used to belong to my uncle.
I found that they are made from quite sturdy wood. I don't know much about wood, so I don't know what type of wood it is. It is a little to tough for carving but I decided that, since I wasn't going to use them for their original purpose, I wanted to make key hangers off of them
They have a octagonal shape so I'm decorating each face with a geometric pattern. First I drew on each face and when I was satisfied I traces it with a marker. Then I started carving them using my rotary tool with different bits.
Then I used jewelers' files to carve notches in some of the corners.
I'm using tungsten bits in different sizes. It's been a bit difficult carving. But when I'm done I'll sand the surfaces flat and drill the holes and inset hook screws in them. Afterwards I'll add varnish.
Then I'll have to figure out a way of putting in the hardware necessary for it to hang from a wall. Maybe I'll add a rope from one side to the other but that might be a little unstable.
I'm considering painting some of the patterns to add a little splash of color.
